Most recently, I got hired on to work as a designer for a nonprofit called Project Lead The Way (PLTW), which works on developing STEM curriculum for PreK-12. Last year, PLTW’s agency created images to be used as Facebook profile pictures during Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, PLTW’s content manager asked if I could breathe some new life into them, hoping to use this as an excuse to have some fun with our social presence. I thought the white rectangular elements in the original designs made the text look like more like buttons, so I wanted to add more visual interest and take some of the burden off of the text. The theme of the week is “teachers are out of this world,” which also aligns with a portion of PLTW’s STEM curriculum, so I purposely incorporated a rocket illustration with clouds for a more visual dynamic. (I also took visual and color inspiration from our course imagery in order to maintain brand cohesion while still changing things up.)
I have also created similar graphics (with 6 different headlines) for Facebook posts, Instagram posts + stories, Twitter, and LinkedIn, in addition to email headers, which I will add to this blogpost as we roll them out!
